« Learning | Main | Our Birthday Season Begins »

October 18, 2006

I haven't fallen off the edge of blogland.

We've been, Thankfully, living in a quite and peaceful time. Very enjoyable for us, but pretty boring for the blog.

My mother-in-law wants to learn to knit. She was going to spend hurricane season with her daughter in Texas. We were going to send her to knitting lessons there. But she got homesick and became anxious to go home and start rebuilding. Her home had several feet of water above the roof from Katrina. She now has the shell repaired, a new roof, and all the studs. She lives in a FEMA trailer in her front yard. There is no knitting store that we know of in her area open yet.

We went to our (almost) LYS and got her a learn to knit DVD. I'm making her some knitting needles. Her favorite color is pink. I picked up some roving to spin for her. The yarn is more Pepto Pink than the picture shows.

A couple of weeks ago Benny's favorite Aunt, Uncle, Cousin, and his wife were up from Louisiana to attend a wedding in Columbus Ohio. We met them for dinner after the wedding. It was a wonderful evening of laughter and catching up. We hadn't seen each other for several years. I had only met them all briefly at our wedding.

I got to sit next to Benny's cousin's wife, Ellen. She used to work with my dad at the VA in New Orleans. When my dad found out she was going to be one of my new relatives, he told me, "Ellen is as beautiful inside, as she is on the outside". I got to see that for myself at dinner. I look forward to getting to know her better.

Check out this terrific pick up stick!

My friend Rose and her husband sent it to me. He made it as a congratulations, that all the legal bullshit and lies against me are finally over, gift.

I'm still finishing the first inkle band. This pick up stick makes the weaving so much easier. I plan to weave some silk bookmarks for Christmas gifts using a design I saw on Sarah's blog.

To Pam, I'll tell you about Nell next post.
