slippers and clients

I'm still in finishing mode ~ Sort of. When Khi was wrapped in my sweater, he was starting a cold that turned into an infection. So I've been busy taking care of him.

I did finish Kaity's slippers.

I realized my mother's birthday was coming, so I started her a pair of slippers too. Hers are 1 strand of pink and 1 strand of dove grey. Her actual birthday is today but we will see her over the week end. I have 1 slipper finished and have cast on for the other.

All of the Rhinebeck reports have been wonderful! DH and I want to go one year. We plan to drive there on Friday and spend the week end. Then we want to go on to other places near there that we've never seen, and come home the next week end. It would be great if it could happen next year, but I have no idea what next week holds, let alone a year from now.

I have a great new client. She isn't even pregnant yet. She's just getting everything in line so she can have her perfect pregnancy!

It's interesting to me how widely the definition of "Perfect Pregnancy" varries from woman to woman. In the end, everyone wants the same result. But getting there is different for each of us.

That's the whole Doula philosophy. Women supporting women in the way they need to be supported. Not according to some "standard of care" or agenda. I love being a doula. It is such an honor to be invited into some of the most significant and life altering chapters in women's lives.

Today I need to start finishing some of my knitting projects. I seem to get about 90% finished with a project when something else turns my head. I put down the current project, rationalizing that "I can finish that quickly enough ~ Later".

I have Kaity and Khi's sweaters to finish. Kaity's only needs a zipper. Khi's needs the last cuff and zipper. 1 of Kaity's slippers is 90% completed, the other is about 50%.

It's time for all of these things as we're having wonderful cool weather. Khi thinks mornings are a little on the cold side. This is how I found him watching television a few minutes ago. morning.jpg

Fall Baking

With the cooler weather, I'm enjoying baking and the wonderful smells of Autumn. Here's a recipe for my favorite Autumn cookie, Gingersnaps. If you like them soft and chewy make enough to still have some a couple of days later. The longer they set, the better they get!

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup shortening or margarine
1/2 cup molasses
2 cups unsifted flour
2 teaspoons soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Cream sugars and shortening
Beat in egg and molasses
Stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed
Chill well
Shape dough in 1 inch balls
Roll balls in granulated sugar
place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets
Bake 9 to 12 minutes at 375F or until edges are set
