Fall Baking

With the cooler weather, I'm enjoying baking and the wonderful smells of Autumn. Here's a recipe for my favorite Autumn cookie, Gingersnaps. If you like them soft and chewy make enough to still have some a couple of days later. The longer they set, the better they get!

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup shortening or margarine
1/2 cup molasses
2 cups unsifted flour
2 teaspoons soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Cream sugars and shortening
Beat in egg and molasses
Stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed
Chill well
Shape dough in 1 inch balls
Roll balls in granulated sugar
place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets
Bake 9 to 12 minutes at 375F or until edges are set
