Company Dinner

We're having guests this week for 3 days. I'm looking forward it. Especially the food. When I was a kid we always got the best food when company came.

Since I'm still recovering from surgery, my brain isn't as quick as usual. I find myself wondering what to prepare. I'm thinking one evening we'll take a cook out to the lake. That's easy and fun. One night we'll eat out. Where I'm stumped is the first dinner.

All of my best "Welcome to our house" dinners are big hearty soups and stews. The kind of thing that can linger on the stove and not depend on a particular arrival time. Great except it's 85F with 94% humidity.

I'll spend some time with my cookbooks and see what turns up. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Moving Forward

I only have to finish the sleeve seams on Khi's tomten and sew the zipper. So my thoughts are on to my next project(s).

A spinning friend in TN has breast cancer. Some of her local spinning friends have organized an afghan to be made. I'll knit a square for that. I have spun some merino, so it will be extra soft. I haven't decided on the pattern yet.

Kaity wants a poncho for fall. I got this Michelle Wyman pattern from Rose.
I usually only knit with good stuff. I'm kind of a yarn snob that way. But this little poncho was going to cost 50 bucks in good wool. So we opted for "ACKrilic" Lion Brand Homespun. She chose the same colors as in the picture. It will be an easy "mindless" project to carry around.

10 YEARS!!!!!!

My sweet Benny and I are celebrating 10 years of marital bliss today!

We have lived more in 10 years than some people get in an entire lifetime. We came into this marriage wounded from our pasts. Now we're healed. We have 2 more kids, giving us a total of 6. And we've moved 1000 miles forward, both in house and in our hearts.

We have always gotten something to share for an anniversary gift to each other. This year we broke from that tradition. Last night, he gave me a 5 diamond anniversary band.

My camera doesn't show it, but the diamonds total a carat and are exquisite.

I got him a 1932 Philco Cathedral Radio, for his collection. It arrived today. He will love it!

Gotta go. We're off for a night of fine dining and celebrating each other.

Political Humor

Usually, I don't write anything about political issues. But this was brought to my attention today. I must say, it is the funniest video I've seen from these guys yet! Check it out!

Finally back to the blog

What a crazy ride my life has been! On June 25 I had major surgery. It was supposed to last 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It lasted 4. Nobody came out to reassure Benny as he waited. After all the death that has surrounded us since March, he was terrified. It turned out I was a mess inside but now everything is fixed. I think my body was pissed for being cut up, so I kept spiking a fever. My 2 day hospital stay, ended up being 7.

The up side of all my recovery time is that Khi almost has a finished Tomten jacket for fall. I'm on the last sleeve. Then I'll sew in a zipper and iron and tack on the appliqué. For this jacket, he chose an American flag. I think that will be quite appropriate for an election year!
