Sleeve Hell

I just read Amber's post about being in sleeve hell. There's nothing quite so monotonous as knitting the sleeves of a beautiful sweater, after spending weeks on the body.

I once read a suggestion from Elizabeth Zimmermann regarding sleeve hell. She suggested keeping the body of your sweater near your knitting chair or sofa, wherever you most enjoy knitting. Then keeping sleeves on needles in other places at the same time.

I did this once. One sleeve lived in a little basket on my kitchen table for when I had to stay near the stove. The other lived in my car for when I had to wait in line or in traffic. The body and both sleeves were finished at nearly the same time.

Unfortunately, the Tomten sleeves are knitted on to the body, from shoulder to cuff. So I will have to spend some time, at a minimum, in sleeve purgatory.

It's ok though. The Tomten is completely Garter Stitch. I've already knit almost 7 inches, up from the bottom!

I hope your Father's Day is spent with those you love the best!

The scarlet yarn I've waited for is finally here!

This is Brownsheep Nature Spun, Color N48 Scarlet. I love the way that word sounds! It has been on back order since March. It seems the Brownsheep roof fell in from the snow.

I'm going to use it to make Khi a new Tomten jacket from Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Workshop.
His old blue one lasted 3 years, but now will go into the box for future grandchildren!

We have had a tropical heat wave for over a week. It has been unbearable. Tonight it finally broke. The temperature is supposed to be in the 50's! I'm off to my porch to knit in the cool breeze!

The Greatest Show on Earth

This week end was the end of the season circus show for my kids. The theme was Carnavale!

The teenagers performed beautiful adagio dances.

And amazing aerial tricks

The littles enjoyed the backstage excitement

the warming up

and most of all the performance!
